Dr hab. inż. Magdalena Klimek-Ochab, prof. PWr

Magdalena Klimek-Ochab graduated from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Faculty of Chemistry) with Master’s degree in Molecular Biotechnology and Biocatalysis. In 2003 she was granted a Doctor’s degree in biological sciences from University of Wroclaw. The PhD thesis dealt the fungal degradation of organophosphonic compounds. In 2003 she received scholarship under the supervision of prof. Giuseppe Forlani at the Department of Life Sciences and Biotechnologies at University of Ferrara. In-depth study on metabolic properties of fungal cells towards P-C compounds has led to the habilitation in 2014 in chemical sciences at Gdańsk University of Technology. Since the beginning of her career in 2003 she has been working for WUST. The aim of her research is to use the enzymatic potential of fungi (including molds and yeasts) in two main areas: in the biodegradation processes of phosphonic xenobiotics and the transformation of various substrates (including waste) into useful products with specific biological activity and application significance.
